Know Who to Call

3/19/2021 (Permalink)

reaching hands, green wording, Only a Reach Away! SERVPRO of the Quad Cities Your call for Emergency Service SERVPRO of the Quad Cities

Know who to call.

Knowing who to call after a catastrophic event occurs should be a priority on your family emergency plan.  Strong to severe storms can strike at anytime of the day or night causing water damage.  Roofs are torn off or damaged from strong winds allowing water to leak into the home and in between the outside and inside walls.  Flooding does not always come from weather related events but household items such as:

  • busted pipes
  • toilets
  • water heater
  • washing machines
  • dishwashers
  • ice maker

Water can cause major damage to the stability of your homes structure and contents.  Many government organizations, including the EPA, suggest that mold and bacteria can begin to form in wet carpet as soon as 24 to 48 hours after becoming wet. The sooner mitigation starts on your home the less cost to you as a homeowner and the probability of salvaging your contents.  Leaving water damage for too long can decrease the value of your home.  Carpet is broken down, wood floors, and walls weaken with water damage. Flood waters can contain bacteria that is harmful and can linger on your belongings.  Leaving water in your home too long will cause fungus to show up.

SERVPRO of the Quad Cities is your go to for a reliable, trustworthy, and experienced mitigation company.  We have the experience, expertise, and training to restore your home quickly and properly. We use advanced inspection and extraction equipment to find the water and remove it as quickly as possible. Our local technicians will closely monitor and document the drying process to ensure your property is back to normal.

Never Changing

3/15/2021 (Permalink)

wording, commitment blk, SERVPRO ot the Quad Cities wording in orange Customer Commitment

The time has changed, and we have sprung forward!  As the season changes so does the weather pattern for strong storms.  April brings showers along with the threat of tornadoes.  Peak tornado season is March through May. Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. but can occur at any time. Tornadoes extend from a thunderstorm to the ground. They normally last less than 10 minutes and range in sizes from F0 to F5.  If you have not begun preparation for safety measures, now is the time.  Make sure you have replaced all the batteries in your clocks and NOAA radio. Check the forecast regularly to see if you are at risk for severe weather.  Listen to your local news or a NOAA Weather Radio to stay informed about watches and warnings in or near your area.

All family members should be aware of safety precautions that have been established for your home.  If you have pets be sure to include them in your safety plan. Time is essential and a quick response to tornado watches and warnings are critical.  Pick a safe room in your home such as a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows.  Conduct a family severe thunderstorm drill regularly so everyone knows what to do.

The changes of the season and the storms it brings is inevitable but the way SERVPRO responds to an emergency stays the same. We are dedicated to our customers and responding to your emergency mitigation needs.  We are your local source for 24/7 storm damage response.  Our technicians are highly trained offering you as our customer the support and service you need during a disaster.  A fast response lessens the damage, limits further damage, and reduces cost.  SERVPRO will be the company that you can trust to rise to the occasion.

SERVPRO and Vandalisim

3/16/2020 (Permalink)

Vandalism wording in 3 D SERVPRO commitment to your home or business when you have been a victim of vandalism.

Approximately 15 percent of Americans fall victim to vandalism each year.  Vandalism is one of the most common forms of crime committed against American households.  This act causes a violation of your sense of security as a property owner. Protecting your home or business from malicious destruction should be a top priority.  Taking common sense tips and applying them can help protect your property.

Keep your property well lit:  Vandals gravitate toward dark areas.  Keep inside lights on to give an appearance of someone being home. Installing exterior lights equipped with motion detectors will scare intruders off.

Install a fence with a secure gate lock:  Vandals will not want to climb over a fence or try and break a lock.  Remember to keep the gate locked.

Plant bushes or shrubs:  This not only makes your home or business attractive but serves as a deterrent. Shrubbery can consist of pointed leaves and thorns to cause climbing of going through them very uncomfortable.

Place video cameras on your property:  Footage of vandalism can be very helpful for the police.  Place them in open areas to deter vandals.

If you have been a victim of vandalism, clean up without delay:  Vandals want their malicious work to be seen.  If it is cleaned immediately, they are less likely to return.

Report your vandalism to the Police:  Reporting will let them know what areas need to be patrolled more often.

Keep your blinds and curtains closed when leaving lights on:  When your blinds and curtains are closed with a light on the vandals are not able to see if someone is home. This causes an uncertainty and deters them.

Install break resistant glass:  Shatter-resistant windows and light fixtures can make it much more difficult for vandals to damage your property, especially with lights. Vandals prefer the cover of darkness and typically go for lights first.

Your quick response to clean up will show you care about your property and will not have displays of vandalism.   SERVPRO Franchise Professionals will act quickly to remove vandalism and graffiti from home and commercial spaces. In addition to removing spray-painted graffiti from exterior walls, they can also clean driveways, walkways, asphalt, metals, wood, glass, plastic, and masonry.

Treat Mold with Caution

3/27/2019 (Permalink)

In Florence, mold damage is a common problem. It affects all kinds of homes and businesses. It is not something to be scared of; it happens to almost everybody, at some time in their lives. However, it does need to be treated with caution. Mold damage, though common, can be both expensive and can cause health effects.

This is why the only effective solution for dealing with chronic mold damage in Florence is to call in the experts. Qualified mold damage restoration teams have the necessary skills and expertise to make sure that all of the damaged areas of a property are safely removed. If you do not seek professional advice, you risk the problem becoming a recurring one.

This guide to the importance of professional mold damage restoration will help you get to grips with the best possible solution.

Fix the Source of the Issue

While homeowners can go some way to removing the superficial signs of mold damage (visible marks and blemishes), it is much more difficult to pinpoint the cause. And this is vital if the problem is to be eradicated for good. Mold damage restoration experts are trained to look for patterns and uncover the source of the destruction. More often than not, the mold is being caused by an unidentified leak within the building or humidity issues.

Recognize the Type of Mold

It is a common misunderstanding to assume that all mold is the same. In fact, there are more than 10,000 different varieties. As they all require a slightly different approach, identification is key to tackling mold damage. Nobody expects you to be able to distinguish between the characteristics of a thousand mold samples, so take the job to somebody who is specially trained for it.

Use the Right Equipment

Another important benefit of using a professional mold damage restoration service is access to specialized equipment. You might have a basic dehumidifier in your home or workplace, but this won’t be strong enough to tackle a serious problem. If there is evidence of high level mold in the building – which causes negative health effects – protective clothing is needed to ensure safety.

Professional Water Restoration Is A Smart Move

3/23/2019 (Permalink)

After a water emergency that floods a home or business, the last thing that most people want to deal with is a bill for cleaning up the damage. This is what leads many homeowners to attempt water damage cleanup on their own instead of calling a professional.

If you're in need of water removal in Florence, you may be tempted to save money by trying to get rid of the excess water on your own. However, going this route typically has more consequences than benefits and will result in greater losses of time, money, and your possessions in the long run. Here's why calling SERVPRO for professional water removal is a smart move.

More thorough water removal
While some homeowners resort to opening windows and doors, turning on ceiling fans, and blotting towels around the house, SERVPRO has powerful equipment that ensures efficient and thorough water removal. We're also often able to restore documents, books, furnishings, and electronic devices affected by water damage.  We will also get your home's humidity back to an appropriate level.

Many water emergencies are hazardous
If your house has been flooded with gray or black water, such as that from a natural disaster, backed up sewer line, or a leaky toilet, expert attention to the problem is best. These types of water are risky for untrained persons to handle because it involves disease causing waste and debris. This is the type of material that can't simply be put out with the week's garbage and needs proper and safe disposal.  We're knowledgeable about how to get rid of contaminated waste during water extraction, so there are no lingering health risks to your family or pets.

Mold and mildew risks
One reason that so many homeowners who attempt DIY water removal eventually end up calling a pro is unseen damage caused by mold and mildew. Your flooring and possessions may look and feel dry.  But without proper water extraction and controlling humidity, mold and mildew will thrive and damage your home's structure along with your possessions and furniture. SERVPRO technicians are skilled at protecting against the growth of mold and mildew and have effective strategies to combat it.

At SERVPRO of the Quad Cities, we know how important it is to get your home back in order as quickly as possible. We'll help you mitigate the costs of any water emergency by restoring your possessions and preventing future damage to your home. For more information about our water removal services or to receive a quote, call us 24/7 at (256)-383-4470

2. SERVPRO of the Quad Cities responds quickly and starts mitigation to prevent further damage.

3. Construction is needed once mitigation is complete. Instead of calling around for contractors to do each project, SERVPRO will handle the headache and work with your insurance company to provide the construction needs to your home or business.

We are looking to help our customers feel at ease through the stressful times of disaster taking care of all their needs in one place.

SERVPRO of The Quad Cities is an IICRC firm. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC Certified Firms have the right to display the IICRC Certified Logo.

IICRC Certified Firms must

• Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.

• Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.

• Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry.

• Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.

• Maintain a written complaint policy and agree to Better Business Bureau or similar arbitration to resolve disputes, and accept the conclusions and recommendations of arbitration.

The IICRC Develops The Standards For The Restoration Industry

The IICRC has been the driving force in establishing the main industry standards and reference guides for professional carpet cleaning, water damage restoration and mold remediation. These IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.

Every five years, the standards are reviewed and updated. The water damage restoration field changes rapidly with advancements in technology and science, and therefore the standards must evolve to keep pace.

Flood Safety Tips for First Responders

Our owner wades through floodwaters in a neighborhood in Muscle Shoals which was heavily impacted by recent flooding.

Know The Procedures You Should Take To Keep Yourself Safe

If you are a first responder in Muscle Shoals and your area has been damaged by floodwater, you are likely eager to start helping others. However, it’s important to know how to protect yourself as you help with the flood response in your area.

1. Wear the Appropriate Clothing

When you enter a home that has sustained damage from floodwater, it’s essential to protect yourself by wearing the appropriate clothing. Since floodwaters can contain mold and other hazardous materials or waste, it might be necessary to wear a mask. Protective clothing, such as gloves, boots and other items can often prevent you from becoming sick or injured as a result of working in a flooded location.

2. Get Vaccinated

As you help with the flood response in your location, you may be exposed to a variety of biohazards. When taking care of a patient or helping someone out of a flooded home, you might be exposed to potentially dangerous elements. The CDC requires responders to receive tetanus and Hepatitis B vaccines, though you can speak to your physician and ask if there are other vaccinations that could benefit you as a first responder. By being vaccinated, you’ll be equipped to handle a variety of situations without risking illness.

3. Be Aware of Hazards

Even with the right clothing and immunizations, it’s important to know that floodwater can contain, or can cause, various hazards. If floodwater is quick-moving, know the procedures you should take to keep yourself safe. Regardless of the situation, take the time to think about your safety.

Knowing how to keep yourself safe as a first responder can in turn help you protect others. As you work to help others, know that it can be useful to work with experts in flood damage restoration in order to fully restore homes.
