The time has changed, and we have sprung forward!  As the season changes so does the weather pattern for strong storms.  April brings showers along with the threat of tornadoes.  Peak tornado season is March through May. Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. but can occur at any time. Tornadoes extend from a thunderstorm to the ground. They normally last less than 10 minutes and range in sizes from F0 to F5.  If you have not begun preparation for safety measures, now is the time.  Make sure you have replaced all the batteries in your clocks and NOAA radio. Check the forecast regularly to see if you are at risk for severe weather.  Listen to your local news or a NOAA Weather Radio to stay informed about watches and warnings in or near your area.  

 All family members should be aware of safety precautions that have been established for your home.  If you have pets be sure to include them in your safety plan. Time is essential and a quick response to tornado watches and warnings are critical.  Pick a safe room in your home such as a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows.  Conduct a family severe thunderstorm drill regularly so everyone knows what to do.
